Are your sets of conditions right?

About

Critical Condition is a wave survival shooter with a twist: your weapons only fire when specific conditions are met. This game turns the traditional shooter formula on its head by making your movement and positioning directly control your firepower.

How to Play

ControlKey
MoveWASD
AimMouse
Switch WeaponQ/E

Getting Started

Your first weapon has very simple conditions: Move Left or Move Right. These conditions give you enough power to shoot from your weapon.

Once you finish your first wave, you'll unlock the shop with lots of components. Buy what you like and place them in your weapon.

Energy System

A critical aspect of weapon creation is the energy that components demand and supply. When creating a weapon, you must keep in mind how much energy it consumes to activate all effects.

Core Features

Conditional Combat System

Mix and match conditions and effects to create wild, unpredictable weapon combinations. The harder the condition to satisfy, the more Energy you earn to spend on devastating effects!

Roguelite Meta-Progression

Every run brings new unlocks! Level up to expand your arsenal of available components. With dozens of conditions and effects to discover, no two runs are ever the same.

Development Story

Originally, this game was planned as a 2-3 day project before New Year's as part of a challenge to make 12 games in 2025. But very soon I realized that I just wanted to keep making it more and more. It became a 2-month project.

While making this game, I was thinking about Noita's system and how it creates such complex wands from simple elements. At first, my approach was to make complex schemes for weapons—in early builds there were combinations of logical elements like AND/OR, chains of blocks, etc. This idea was declined after the very first playtest; such a system needs to be the core idea with all gameplay revolving around it, so it wasn't fitting for this game. However, the weapon slot system and the fact that you can equip 3 weapons were inherited from this idea.

After some time, I decided to focus on movement. Conditions that make you move are my exploration of the movement mechanics in vampire survival games.

I really hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoy playing it and achieving my record on the leaderboard!

Fun Game, congratulations on getting featured on X!

Will there be a linux version? Current windows version crashes on proton when you open the weapon shop

Does it happen only in the weapon shop, or also in the component shop? Does it create any errors or logs?

It is possible to build for Linux, but I’m afraid I cannot test it, so it is possible that even with a Linux build it still will crash.

It only happens in the weapon shop as far as I know. I was able to enter the component shop before the boss wave. But I never tried it after the boss wave.

Fixed in 0.9.51, Thanks for reporting it!

can confirm it’s been fixed! thanks! pretty fun game!

the "fire at nearest enemy when not equipped" upgrade isn't working.

Certain conditions do not refresh while it’s not active. Such as zones and spin.

The +3 damage/ extra energy seem to boost firerate, at least in conjunction w/ shotgun+firerate boost

YALL I MADE IT TO THE LEADERBOARD!!! took an hour and a half and was very scary BUT I DID IT!! loved playing this game its insanely well made for a BROWSER GAME??!?! i love your work almost every single game that you make is the most creative stuff ive ever seen. never not surprised by how your games just keep getting better.

also some advice the recoil is actually amazing if you get enough shot speed, i didnt even use wasd for half of it since i was traveling so fast.

also use bees <3

I kept it simple:
7 "<80% health" conditions.

3 single bullets,
2 "40% shot speed up" and

1 "+10 shot damage "

and obviously enough slot upgrades to fit that stuff.

creates and uses 14 energy at all times, if your hp is under 80.

at the start of level getting it below 80% withoutt aking too much damage can be tricky, especially agaisnt bosses, but then oit becomes moving in circles aroudn the arena, firing towards the middle, and mostly just paying attention when some nasty arrow about to shoot at you, so you avoid in time.

had looked at sone other weapons before but shotgun is nice but always has some annoying side conditions.

not to emntion that all slot ugprades are gone.

saw the bes one before but it also ahd some annoying side effects that i couldnt be botherd with.

also saw some weird thing with firing a blank and some conditiosn with it, no clue what that was.

so yeah, simple ppistol with multi shot upgrades, damage up and shot speed ups does the trick,

sticking to the basics, keep it clean and simple.

currently at wave 17 but by now I am kind of bored and whille likely stop playing cause meh, not much to see here.

know all the components by now, so expanind gwould be buying more slots, 80 helath conditions and either shot speed or damage ups. even thoguh the +3 damage ones are meh and I have only ever encoutnered the +10 damage upgrade once.

but someoen gotta explain to me the 2 conditions "to activate get money work for 7.0s" or the damage equivalent.

dont exactly understand what their conditions are.

Also took me way too long to realize that buying tons of left/right move conditions wasnt the waay to go but rather the 80% health since it is always on even if moving up and down (which there arent conditions for)

(+1)

in addition to this, any move and always on are worth 1 energy and support up and down movement. left and right being 2 energy doesn’t make them better than these, since you’ll want a left and a right anyway, so both solutions end up being 2 slots for 2 total energy

so left and right are probably the worst things to buy

yeah but the game starts you with those and not knowing shit in the beginning, you might think buying them would be the right thing...
which it obviously isnt :-)

(1 edit)

Balancing energy and attack upgrades was really fun, meow!
If I mismanaged my energy, I sometimes couldn’t attack at all and just had to die, though—meow.
The shotgun-like weapon that fires lots of bullets had amazing synergy with damage boosts and felt super strong.
I probably played version 0.9.4.0, but the game crashed while I was playing, meow! (ΦωΦ)

(1 edit) (+2)

Bro I had 5 360 to activate and 5 +3 damage per extra energy and I was shooting 10 per second each one doing 300 damage 😭 (adding this game to my favorites)

(+2)

If you have a gun that shoots bees and recoil you can sometimes just continuously spam bees and get stuck in a corner and everything dies.

(+2)

If you end a wave too close to the "next wave" trigger. You just pretty much instantly start the next wave skipping the shop. Also if you have a recoil weapon that doesn't automatically stop firing between rounds, you can get more or less soft locked as your character will just get constantly yeeted across the screen until you manage to get it to clip over a shop to turn off your weapons.

really liked it. some things. its really difficult to scroll across the slots then u get too many, almost stoped playing the game casuse i couldnt scroll. also the only way that i could consistently dodge the long shooting straight enemies was just circling the map. circling the map is probably the best method for surviving but its not that fun of a playstyle imo. maybe some enemies that limit that playstyle would be fun. and some variation in the levels i feel like as i progressed there were just more of the same enemies, wheras i think it would be cool so see a level with just lots of slow tanky enemies or a level with just shooting straight enemies.

finally got a score of 34 but died after accidentally using "blink to cursor" with the golden spin

(+1)

"thank you.. Gyro.."
(4x spin 360* to activate)

(+1)

the golden spin

I guess I have to add horses in the next update…

(1 edit) (+1)

it crashed at wave 30 (i had too many bees)

I have plaed till wave 17 and have literally never seen most of those conditions and components.
gun damage, and shot spped is obvious but others?
likely bee exclusive ones I guess.

(+1)

spin x7, bee, fire at random location when unequipped, shot speed, bonus damage for extra energy, AOE, knockback, fire with a 45 degree spread, and another shot speed

(+1)

honestly i just throw anything i have in there since i have practically unlimited energy

new favorite game this month

how do you open a new weapon slot?

i can only use slot 1, and i cant use a "add condition slot / add effect slot" things on the the others since it can only be used by placing it "in" a preexisting effect/condition slot.

edit: i know how to use the "add effect/condition" things, i just meant they didn't work on an empty slot.

and i know how to switch to the other slots, i just didn't know you were supposed to beat a boss to unlock weapons.

You can click with mouse on icon or use key 1 2 3 for it

(+2)

get new weapons after completing a few waves and beating a boss, you can get extra effect slots by buying them as a drop in the component shop

it says it is missing a .pck file

Hi! It can happen if you open the game inside a zip archive or extract only the .exe file. Try extracting the whole archive to some location. You can also try using the ITCH IO app it can do that for you automatically.

thx

It seems that scaling up both damage and fire rate based off of energy, combined with always on energy sources and multiple money gain slots can get a little out of hand. :D

(+1)

This is exactly what I want when creating all that

and here I thought I was already settled well enough with my 7 80% healths and soem simple pistol with shot amount, speed and damage upgrades :O

how did you keep yourself from getting bored after fighting waves of enemies with the same tactics, weapons, upgrades again and again?

I played a lot better once I thought "just hold the cursor over the enemy's and move without thinking about where you're pointing

(+1)

Yep, I also good with auto-aim weapon

Ahh, I'll have to get to that level. Cool game!

Are you a solo indie dev?

what does add spread do?

This makes the weapon less accurate, it can even become a 360-degree weapon if you spend enough time

FUN GAME. I had a good time playing this. Cute player character. I really didn't want to see him loss so as soon as the game started I was invested in making sure he survives. The game play and enemy spawn kept me engaged for some time. Would pay few bucks to play full game.

Thanks for playing!

Very fun game I enjoyed it quite a bit however it is a bit easy. The weapon building reminded of noita in some aspects. I liked messing around with the different weapons to see which could overkill the enemies quicker. Overall be proud. This is a game I wouldn't mind spending a couple bucks play it being free is a steal.

I am glad you like it!

Amazing game! very addictive, i had to play the windows version cause on my browser was too laggy, and on windows was fine, till i make a build with firerate and rockets ( too much rockets on screen ) and the game just closed on wave 20, but i def will try again. Congrats

Thanks! I remember playing your game from Acerola Jam! Really glad you enjoyed it!
